Miami Gardens Teen Killed In Accidental Shooting

MIAMI GARDENS (2-27-16) — Police are investigating an accidental shooting that left a 14-year-old boy dead.  It happened Saturday evening near N.W. 171st Street and 22nd Avenue.

Miami Gardens Police said another 14-year-old was playing with a gun inside a home when it went off and shot the victim.  He was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital but did not survive.  The investigation is active.

Police respond to accidental shooting outside Costco

CENTERVILLE, Ohio (2-27-16) — Police said a man accidentally shot himself outside of Costco.

It happened in the parking lot of the store in the 5300 block of Cornerstone North Boulevard just before 2 p.m.

Police said the man and his wife were getting out of their vehicle when the man’s gun went off. He was shot in the ankle area.

The victim is a 63-year-old man from Beavercreek. He was taken to the hospital. Police said he’s expected to be okay.

Police said the man is a CCW permit holder.





One man injured in shooting at Hampden Trailer Park

HAMPDEN, Maine (2-28-16) -- An argument at the Hampden Trailer Park escalated when an assailant tried to shoot one man, but accidentally shot a different man in the leg.

Hampden Police say 53-year-old Roger Penman, a resident of the trailer park, walked across another resident's lawn. The two had a verbal argument, which resulted in Penman pulling out the gun. Police believe Penman intended to shoot the individual he was arguing with, but he accidentally shot a friend of that individual.

The victim was shot in the leg. His injuries were not life-threatening.

Police say Penman fled the scene. Hampden Police, Maine State Police, and Bangor Police searched the trailer park. A man approached police and told them Penman was in his trailer. The man convinced Penman to come out of the trailer and surrender to police. Penman was arrested without incident.

Police say there had been a history of animosity among the parties involved.

Police say Penman was charged with Class B aggravated assault with a firearm and Class C reckless conduct with a firearm.

He is being held at Penobscot County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail. 






CMPD: 14-year-old boy accidentally shot in arm

CHARLOTTE, NC  (2-27-16)  A 14-year-old boy is recovering after police said he was shot in the arm Saturday afternoon.

Police were dispatched to Fred Alexander Park in north Charlotte just before 3 p.m.

The teen and a group of friends were playing with the gun when it went off, investigators said. 

The bullet penetrated the teen’s arm and he was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers determined the teen lives just yards away from the park on McAllister Drive.

Investigators interviewed the other teens involved as well as any adults with information.

Channel 9 is asking investigators who fired the gun, who the gun is registered to and how the teens got a hold of the weapon.

It’s unclear if any charges will be filed in the case.

The investigation is ongoing.






Berkeley County deputy recovering after accidentally discharging weapon

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC  (2-25-16)  A Berkeley County deputy is recovering after accidentally shooting himself in the hand, officials say. 

According to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office 19-year law enforcement veteran was inspecting his weapon in his patrol car while on duty Monday afternoon when it went off.

The deputy initially planned on driving himself to the hospital but instead called for EMS.

Chief Deputy Mike Cochran says as standard practice, the incident is being reviewed by their professional standards unit.
