Teen accidentally shoots himself after firing shots at Cleveland officers

Cleveland, Oh  (2-25-16) - A 16-year-old boy is being treated at a local hospital after accidentally shooting himself in the leg while running from Cleveland officers.

Police sources confirm to WKYC that the teen fired shots at the Fourth District Police Station in the 9300 block of Kinsman Road.

Two police officers, who were sitting inside their cruiser outside of the police station, were uninjured. Bullets did hit the district building, though.

We're told that the cruiser's lights were on when the boy fired multiple shots around 10:40 p.m. Wednesday.

The officers were able to catch the teen on foot after spotting him near a Shell gas station.

Officers administered first aid on his injured leg until paramedics arrived at the scene. Police say the teen gave conflicting statements about how he was shot, but also report the entry / exit wounds in his thigh are consistent with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

She was hit in the upper torso, but her injuries weren't life-threatening and she was stable on Wednesday, Evans said.

Officers initially were told that the victim was shot when someone dropped a gun and it went off.

McDonald was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is being held at the Southwest Detention Center, with bail set at $1 million.

Bristol man charged after accidentally shooting himself

Bristol,   (2-22-16)  – A local man who said he shot himself accidentally faces three charges.
Keith Reome, 48, of 16 Rossi Drive, appeared in Bristol Superior Court on Monday on charges of unlawful discharge of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm and first-degree reckless endangerment.
Police said Reome is a convicted felon and is barred from having any guns.
According to the arrest warrant, an officer was called to Bristol Hospital around 2 p.m. on Feb. 5, as Reome was being treated for a gunshot wound to his ankle.
Reome, the warrant said, told police he accidentally shot himself about 13 hours earlier, in his driveway. Having gone outside for a cigarette, he said he was reaching into his pocket when he mistakenly pulled the gun’s trigger. He told police he waited before going to the hospital because he does not drive and did not want to call an ambulance and “create a scene,” the warrant said.
Police later seized a .32 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun and some ammunition from Reome’s home.
Reome was arrested six days later and released on a $5,000 non-surety bond.
In court on Monday, officials said he has previous convictions for second-degree assault with a motor vehicle and driving under the influence.
Jeffrey Lee, the prosecutor, asked during the hearing that the bond be increased, saying what happened was very dangerous and the bullet very easily could have gone “through someone’s bedroom and hit a 2-year-old.”
Kevin Creed, Reome’s lawyer, requested that the bond remain the same, adding that his client has never had an issue with coming to court. He also said Reome wants to put this matter behind him.
The only way to do that, Lee countered, was to plead guilty and serve a two-year minimum mandatory sentence.
Reome opted to plead not guilty.
His bond was raised to $50,000 non-surety, meaning he is still free, but the bond could be imposed if he doesn’t show up in court. The case was continued to April 11.

Monroe woman sues neighbor who shot her as she walked to mailbox

Monroe, Or   (2-23-16)   A Monroe business owner who pleaded guilty last year to accidentally shooting a neighbor now faces a $2.55 million lawsuit filed by the victim in Lane County Circuit Court.

Gale Fogelstrom’s suit against Jeffrey Fields lists the serious injuries she sustained when multiple bullets struck her as she walked to her mailbox on the afternoon of April 6, 2014.

Fogelstrom underwent a number of surgeries and other procedures after suffering a lacerated spleen that required removal, a collapsed lung and other injuries, the lawsuit asserts.

Fields, 59, told Benton County sheriff’s deputies after the shooting that he and another person had been target practicing on his property, officials said at the time.

He was later arrested and charged in the incident. He pleaded guilty last May to misdemeanor charges of fourth-degree assault and recklessly endangering another person, and is now serving a three-year probation term.

Fields must complete 80 hours of community service and is banned from shooting guns in Benton County while he is on probation, according to court records.

A call made Monday to a phone number listed in court documents as being Fields’ went straight to voice message, which said the mailbox was full.

Fogelstrom’s lawsuit states that she was walking to her mailbox on Reese Creek Road, a few miles northwest of Monroe, when multiple stray bullets struck her in the abdomen and pelvis.

Fields stopped shooting after Fogelstrom screamed for help but did not come to her aid, the suit asserts.

Fogelstrom was 60 at the time.

The lawsuit, filed last week, seeks more than $2.3 million in noneconomic damages for her injuries, disfigurement, pain, suffering, discomfort and inconvenience; and $250,000 for medical expenses.

Fogelstrom is represented by Zemper Eiva Law in Eugene.

Named as defendants in the suit are Fields and his two businesses, Dawson Timber Services and Fields Enterprises.

Police: 14-year-old shot in Lake City home invasion a fabricated story

Jacksonville, Fl   (2-19-16) — Investigators said a home invasion that left a 14-year-old with a bullet wound in the neck was likely a fabricated story.
Lake City police said the family would not cooperate with investigators after they found discrepancies in their story.
Police responded to NE Webster Avenue Feb. 6 after a 14-year-old was reportedly shot after a home invasion.
Family said they heard someone kicking the front door of their home around 9:50 p.m.
They told police the door swung open and a man in all black clothing and a ski mask came into the living room with a gun.
They told police he started shooting and then ran.
The teen's 16-year-old brother and uncle were not harmed, according to officials.
The 14-year-old was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition.
Lake City police and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) investigated through the night.
They reviewed evidence and got a sense that the shooting didn't occur as the family described.
When they brought it up to family, they refused to cooperate with investigators.
Police were also told no one had broken into the home in calls received days after the shooting.
“We are confident at this point telling residents that they can feel safe; there is no one loose in their community kicking in doors and randomly shooting our children,” said Chief Argatha Gilmore. “We are now focused on getting to the bottom of what really happened that night so we can bring closure to this case.”
LCPD will continue to investigate to determine the complete sequence of events. Investigators are waiting for the complete Crime Scene Report from FDLE, which will give a more accurate overview of the incident based on physical evidence from the scene, such as bullet trajectory.

Carver special education teacher placed on leave
Husband says he doesn’t want woman to be prosecuted

Odessa, Tx  (2-18-16)   The 43-year-old preschool special education teacher who is accused of shooting her husband in the stomach has been placed on paid administrative leave by Ector County ISD.   But her husband said from his Medical Center Hospital room that he doesn’t want her to be prosecuted.

Amelia Marie Clark, 10637 W. 20th St., was being held Thursday at the Ector County Detention Center on a $30,000 bond.   Clark was arrested at about 10:50 p.m. Monday after she called police to report an accidental shooting. Ector County Sheriff's Office deputies reported that her husband 46-year-old Dale Clark, told them Amelia Clark demanded to know who he was talking to on the phone that night.     After some arguing, Dale Clark told deputies, she went into the bedroom, grabbed a gun and shot him, according to the sheriff's office. Amelia Clark then dialed 9-1-1.     Dale Clark said Thursday in an interview from the hospital, however, that the shooting was an accident and he doesn’t want his wife in jail anymore.  “I forgave her the minute it happened,” he said. “She was just upset, she didn’t know what she was doing.”

Dale Clark said when Amelia Clark pointed the gun at him, he was scared, but he offered to give the phone to her.     “She was just trying to get me to hand over my phone so she could look at it,” Dale Clark said. “I told her this is no way to play around. It scared me. I was just telling her don’t play around like this.”     But he wasn’t afraid because he thinks she’s violent, he said; he was afraid because he said she is inexperienced with guns.     She was shaking when he was handing the phone to her, Dale Clark said, and that’s when she accidentally shot him.

“From the moment it went off, it was like, oh my God, oh my God, oh my God,” Dale Clark said. “It scared her as much as anything when it went off.”
The bullet missed vital organs and didn’t hit any bones, he said, but did nick his kidney. Dale Clark said he hoped to be released from the hospital Thursday night.
He also said he was worried for her career and that she’s not a person who is violent or who should inspire fear in anyone.

“She’s a second-generation school teacher,” he said. “She wouldn’t hurt a child for nothing. And she really had no intention of hurting me. She was just trying to scare me.”
